Constant back chatter, uncertainties, motives, dreams, memories, fears… I am not a being that can control activity of my consciousness. Some do have this ability that I do not possess, being able to filter out the rejected, awful images and magnify the positive, overwhelming glimpses of what it means to be human. In an attempt to gain control over my freight train of thoughts, I captured ideas of contemplation with the simplest forms of communication. Using text and imagery sprouted from the materialistic, objective world in encapsulating ways, an attempt is made to control cognition. Harnessing the unruly, whirling concepts of humanity, existence, down to the most singular instance of a single thought. Grasping thoughts, emotions, mental interpretations of objectivity… saving their fleet occurrence in time like a Polaroid one could hold in their hand. This physical act of ceasing thoughts is an effort to be able to freeze them, thus allowing the time and option to do what is needed with them, whatever it may be. Remove them from my psyche, execute pain, invoke emotions, provide clarity, and develop enlightenment.
Believing strongly in the power of the universe’s energy and the subliminal power that is bestowed upon humanity, my work is a conceptual message to listen to things that are not easily heard.
Even though most of my undergraduate work consisted of trying to understand heavy complexes that dealt with mourning and life acceptance, I do value the youthful, playful side of life as well.
The duality of glass allows me to grasp both extremities in the world, the hot and cold, soft and hard, sharp and dull, etc. The extreme attributes of glass are reflected within my own personality.
